IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: NEWARK VALLEY ROLLS TO 60-42 WIN AT TRUMANSBURG (2025-02-13)
Tioga County Sports ReportTRUMANSBURG — Newark Valley built a double-digit halftime cushion, and blew the game open in the third quarter on its way to a 60-42 win over Trumansburg here Thursday night in IAC Large School girls basketball action.
The Cardinals, who have won four in a row and 10 of their last 11, improve to 15-4 on the season.
"The girls played hard tonight and played together," said Newark Valley coach Greg Schweiger.
"We picked up the intensity after halftime," he noted. "In the third quarter, we played more like I expect us to play.
"And, we had good balance in scoring tonight," added Schweiger. "Aubrey Kwiatkowski had a solid all-around game. And Kam Short turned in a nice performance in the paint."
Aubrey Kwiatkowski pumped in eight points in the first quarter to lead the Cardinals to a 17-10 lead after the opening stanza.
The pace slowed a bit in the second quarter, but Newark Valley doubled its lead with an 11-4 run to take a 28-14 lead into the halftime break. Kam Short scored five points in the stanza, and Kwiatkowski added four.
The Cardinals used a balanced attack in the third quarter to blow the game open with a 24-11 blitz.
Adrianna Rich knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, while Kwiatkoswki, Haven Aylesworth, Kam Short, and Liv Short each scored four points, and Newark Valley took a 52-25 lead into the fourth quarter.
Kwiatkowski led NV with 16 points, five rebounds, and five assists, while Kam Short had 13 points, 14 rebounds, and five blocked shots, and Rich had 10 points and six boards.
Finta had seven points, three rebounds, six assists, and three steals in the win, while Livia Short added six points, eight rebounds, four steals, and one blocked shot, Anika Smith chipped in with four points, and Aylesworth grabbed seven boards.
Lenora Reed led Trumansburg with 21 points.
Newark Valley wraps up the regular season Tuesday when it hosts Maine-Endwell.
