IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: NEWARK VALLEY ROLLS TO 62-37 WIN OVER WHITNEY POINT (2025-02-11)
Tioga County Sports ReportNEWARK VALLEY — Newark Valley jumped out to a double-digit lead early, and cruised to a 62-37 win over Whitney Point here Tuesday night in IAC Large School crossover boys basketball action.
The Cardinals had three players in double-figures with Austin Green netting 19 points, Tim Wojytsiak scoring 16, and Tristan Veruto adding 14. Anthony Dougher chipped in with six points.
"We’ve been getting multiple guys to finish with double-digit scoring lately, which is what we need to help us win ball games," said Newark Valley coach Scott Stratton. "Guys are playing with an offensive confidence that is great to see."
Veruto scored six points, and Green knocked down a 3-pointer and added five points to help the Cardinals to a 14-1 lead after the opening eight minutes.
Wojtysiak drained a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points, and Green added five more points, including his second 3-pointer, in a 17-12 scoring advantage that extended the Newark Valley lead to 31-13 at the half.
The Cardinals kept knocking down 3-pointers in the third quarter with Green and Wojtysiak both connecting on two from behind the arc.
Green scored nine points, and Wojtysiak added six points to fuel a 19-1o run that pushed the lead to 50-23 heading into the final eight points.
Veruto scored seven points in the fourth quarter, and Dougher added five points, including the team's ninth 3-pointer of the game.
Newark Valley, now 6-12, returns to action Thursday when it hosts Oxford.
