IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: STATE-RANKED LANSING PULLS AWAY FROM NEWARK VALLEY, 67-47 (2025-02-05)
Tioga County Sports ReportNEWARK VALLEY — State-ranked Lansing took the lead early and gradually pulled away for a 67-47 win over Newark Valley here Wednesday night in IAC Large School crossover boys basketball action.
The Bobcats, ranked 19th in Class B, jumped out to a 20-13 lead in the first quarter on the strength of 11 points by Jordan Sidle, who was 6-for-6 in the free-throw line.
Tim Wojtysiak knocked down three 3-pointers, and scored 11 points in the opening stanza to keep the Cardinals in the game.
Austin Green canned a 3-pointer and scored seven points in the second quarter, but Lansing outscored Newark Valley, 16-10, to take a 36-23 lead into the halftime intermission.
Lansing extended its lead with a 15-10 third-quarter spurt to take a 52-33 lead, despite a pair of 3-pointers by Green and four points from Wojtysiak.
Lansing closed the game with a 15-14 advantage in the fourth quarter, despite eight points by Wojtysiak.
Wojtysiak led Newark Valley with 24 points, including four 3-pointers, while Green scored 13, and Tony Veruto added six points.
Sidle led Lansing with 18 points, while Jackson Tarbert scored 15 points, and Ryan Pettograsso-Houk added 13 points, including a trio of 3-pointers.
Newark Valley, now 5-11 returns to action Friday at Notre Dame.
