IAC JV BOYS BASKETBALL: NEWARK VALLEY BLOWS GAME OPEN LATE IN 51-29 WIN OVER S-VE (2024-02-04)
Tioga County Sports ReportSPENCER — Newark Valley used a big fourth-quarter run to blow the game open in a 51-29 win over S-VE here Monday night in IAC junior varsity boys basketball action.
Tristan Veruto scored four points, and Dekan Walker added a 3-pointer to help the junior Cardinals to an 11-5 after the first quarter.
Kameron Zupancic Tesseyman scored four points in the second quarter as the Cardinals outscored the Panthers 8-6 to take a 19-11 lead into the halftime locker room.
Gabe McCracken scored eight points in the first half for S-VE, and Taylor VanDerpoel added a 3-pointer.
VanDerpoel, Aaron Shoemaker, and Javier Baillo each knocked down 3-pointers, and McCracken scored four more points, but Veruto tossed in nine points, including a 3-pointer as Newark Valley countered and the two teams each scored 13 points. The Cardinals led 32-24 heading into the fourth quarter.
Veruto scored 10 more points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and Aiden Alger and Troy Blomberg each knocked down 3-pointers to fuel a 19-5 game-closing run for the Cardinals.
Newark Valley hosts Lansing Wednesday, while S-VE (0-13) Candor Tuesday.
