Tioga County Sports ReportVESTAL — Sophomore Donald Makie had a hot hand from behind the 3-point arc to spark Candor to a big second half in a 73-55 win over Vestal here Monday night in non-league boys basketball action.
Jakobe Foster scored six points in the first quarter and Carson Heidl added four points to help the Coyotes to a 14-11 lead after the opening stanza.
Foster scored seven points in the second quarter, but Vestal used a 17-11 run to take a 28-25 lead into the halftime locker room.
Makie, who had just four points in the first half, knocked down four 3-pointers and scored 14 points in the third quarter, while Foster had eight points, and Teagan Kwiatkowski added a trey to fuel a 27-17 run that gave the Coyotes a 52-45 lead heading into the final eight minutes.
Makie scored seven points, including another 3-pointer, in the fourth quarter, while Kwiatkowski had six points on a 3-pointer and an old-fashion three-point play, and Heidl added four points as Candor closed the game with a 21-10 run.
Makie led Candor with a career-high 25 points, while Foster had 23 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists, and Heidl had 10 points and nine rebounds.
Kwiatkowski added nine points, while Ryan Huizinga chipped in with four points and 10 rebounds, and Cam Sinn chipped in with three boards.
Candor, now 11-5, returns to action Tuesday at S-VE.
