IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: NEWARK VALLEY ROLLS TO 69-39 WIN OVER S-VE (24 PHOTOS) (2025-02-03)

SPENCER — Newark Valley built an 11-point halftime lead, then blew the game open in the third quarter on its way to a 69-39 win over S-VE here Monday night in IAC boys basketball action.

Austin Green, who led the Cardinals with a career-high 24 points, knocked down a trio of 3-pointers for nine points in the first quarter, and Tim Wojtysiak added four points to help the Cardinals to a 15-10 lead.

Wojtysiak scored six points in the second quarter, while Green had five points, and Anthony Dougher added four points in an 18-12 run that pushed the Cardinals' lead to 33-22 at the half.

Clayton Bower scored eight points in the first half for the Panthers, and Jackson Bennett and Christopher Merrick added five points apiece.

Seven different Cardinals put their name in the scoring column in the third quarter, led by four points each from Green, Wojtysiak, and Dougher, and 3-pointers from Bradyn Woods and Wyatt Welch, in a 22-7 blitz that extended the NV lead to 55-29 entering the final eight minutes.

Merrick scored all seven of S-VE's points in the stanza.

Green canned his fifth and sixth 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, and Ashton Slavik added a trey, while S-VE's Keith Hills scored six points as NV outscored the Panthers, 14-10, in the final eight minutes.

Wojtysiak scored 14 points for the Cardinals, while Dougher added 11 points, and Josh Benjamin and Welch chipped in with six points apiece.

Merrick led S-VE with 12 points, while Bower scored 10 points, Hills had eight points, Bennett added five points, and Luukas Carling chipped in with four points.

Newark Valley, now 5-10, hosts Lansing Wednesday, while S-VE (0-13) hosts Candor Tuesday.
