IAC JV GIRLS BASKETBALL: FAST START CARRIES CANDOR TO 62-48 WIN OVER NEWFIELD (2025-02-03)
Tioga County Sports ReportCANDOR — Candor jumped out to a 10-point first-quarter lead on its way to a 62-48 win over Newfield here Friday night in IAC South Small School crossover junior varsity basketball action.
Nathan Morse and Ethan Eiklor each hit a 3-pointer, and scored seven points apiece in the first quarter, and Kyle Jantz canned a 3-pointer as the Coyotes opened the game with a 20-10 run.
Candor managed just four points in the second quarter, but the defense held Newfield to seven, and maintained a 24-17 lead heading into the locker room.
Kellen Williamson scored seven points, including a 3-pointer, in the third quarter, while Morse scored four more points, and Eiklor drained a 3-pointer as Candor added to its lead with an 18-15 advantage, taking a 42-32 lead into the final stanza.
Williamson connected on a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points in the fourth quarter, while Jantz scored six points in a 20-16 game-closing scoring advantage.
Williamson led Candor with 20 points and six rebounds, while Morse had 15 points and three rebounds, and Eiklor had 11 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Jantz had 11 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocked shots in the win, while Carter Edwards hauled down 10 rebounds, and Zach Hillman added four boards.
Candor, now 9-5 overall and 8-2 in its division, returns to action Tuesday at S-VE.
