IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: EVERYONE CONTRIBUTES IN CANDOR'S 67-14 WIN OVER CAMPBELL-SAVONA (2025-02-01)
Tioga County Sports ReportSAVONA — Candor jumped out to a big lead early, and also saw everyone on its roster score in a 67-14 non-league girls basketball win over Campbell-Savona here Saturday afternoon.
The Coyotes had three players score in double-figures in the win, led by Emmi Makie, who scored 24 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, to go along with five steals, and two blocked shots.
Claire Rollins had 13 points, five rebounds, and four steals for Candor, and Shawna Conklin had 11 points, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots.
Candor opened the scoring off the tip as Makie was fouled driving to the basket. She sank both free throws and sparked a 9-0 run. Makie, Claire Rollins, and Hazel Ray all had baskets in the 15-2 first-quarter run.
Six Coyotes contributed to second quarter scoring. Rollins connected on two free throws and a layup. Megan Williamson and Hazel Ray hit one free throw each. Ava Fernando and Shawn Conklin scored a basket each on offensive putbacks, and Makie had a field goal and a 3-pointer. Candor entered the half up 30-9.
The second half was all Coyotes as the Panthers managed just 5 points over two frames, their lone point in the fourth quarter coming on a free throw.
Candor took the third frame 13-4 on three points apiece from Rollins and Conklin, and seven from Makie.
The final frame saw six Coyotes score on two 12-point runs, with four from Rollins, seven from Williamson, six from Conklin, three from Makie, and baskets from Malley Heidl and Nicole Poli.
Williamson added eight points and four rebounds in the win, while Ray had five points, 12 rebounds, and a career-high six assists, and Heidl grabbed nine boards.
Candor improves to 11-3 overall and 6-2 in IAC play, and hosts Spencer-VanEtten and Odessa-Montour Tuesday and Thursday in key divisional games.
