NEWARK VALLEY — Newark Valley won four of the six contested weight classes, three by fall and one by technical fall, and picked up seven forfeits in a 65-12 win over Moravia here Wednesday afternoon in IAC wrestling action.

The Blue Devils took the early lead behind Trever Wells' 18-second fall at 145 pounds, but Marcos Escalante and Logan Woodin each registered first-period falls at 152 and 160, respectively, to put the Cardinals ahead for good, at 12-6.

Six consecutive forfeits to — Gabe Merrill (170), Titus Callahan (190), Jack Blomberg (215), Austin DeBolt (285), Kenny Slater (101), and Jacob Shipman (108) — gave the Cardinals an insurmountable 48-6 lead.

Chance Spoonhower scored a third-period pin at 116, and Leland Houston picked up a forfeit at 124 to stretch the lead to 60-6.

Moravia ace Hunter Boynton's first-period fall at 131 pounds put up the Blue Devils' final points of the night.

Trevor Middendorf closed out the match with a 20-3 technical fall in 3:03 at 138 pounds.

Newark Valley, now 7-1, closes out the dual season Thursday when it hosts Corning.
