IAC WRESTLING: ZIMMER SCORES FALL IN FINAL BOUT TO LIFT SVEC TO 36-30 WIN OVER CORNING (17 PHOTOS) (2025-01-28)

CORNING — Freshman Brennan Zimmer came through in the clutch with a first-period fall to lift SVEC to a 36-30 win over Corning here Tuesday night in non-league wrestling action.

Junior Rodney Vaow gave the Eagles a quick 6-0 lead with a pin of Nicholas Woodcock in 3:03 in their 131-pound bout.

At 138 pounds, junior Karen Westbrook scored a fall in 1:57 over Blake Teeter, and 8th-grader Gabe Benjamin followed with a pin of Rob Clark in 3:30 at 145 pounds to make it 18-0.

After Matthew Mahon put the Hawks on the board with a pin at 152 pounds, sophomore Cooper Zufall made it 24-6 with a pin of Paterick Akerelrea in 3:57 at 160 pounds.

Neither team fielded a grappler at 170 pounds, Corning's Clayton smith scored a fall at 190 pounds to close the gap to 24-12.

Sophomore Kaden Sims decked J.J. VanSkiver in 1:15 at 215 pounds to stretched the Eagles' advantage to 30-12.

However, Corning picked up forfeits at 101 and 108 pounds to trim the deficit to 30-24, Dalton Webb tied the match at 30-30 with a 23-second fall at 116 pounds.

In the decisive 124-pound finale, Zimmer scored a fall in 73 seconds to lock up the win for the Eagles.
