IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: CANDOR PULLS AWAY AFTER FIRST QUARTER IN 85-43 WIN OVER EDISON (2025-01-28)

ELMIRA HEIGHTS — Edison kept it close for one quarter, but Candor poured in 50 points over the middle two quarters on its way to an 85-43 win here Tuesday night in IAC boys basketball action.

Donald Makie and Teagan Kwiatkoski each knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter, while Jakobe Foster scored four points, and Matthew Smith added a trey to help the Coyotes to a 21-17 lead after the opening stanza.

Smith pumped in nine points, including a 3-pointer, in the second quarter, while Foster added seven points, Makie scored five, and Carson Heidl added four points to fuel a 25-6 blitz that gave Candor a 46-23 lead at the half.

Foster tossed in 11 points in the third quarter, including his second 3-pointer of the game, while Makie added eight points, including another 3-pointer, and Heidl chipped in with four points in a 25-10 run that pushed the Coyote advantage to 71-33 entering the final eight minutes.

Foster led Candor with 22 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, and seven steals, and Makie had 21 points, including four 3-pointers, and four assists.

Smith had 14 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, three rebounds, three assists, and one blocked shot in the win, while Kwiatkowski added six points, three boards, three assists, and one blocked shot, and Cam Sinn chipped in with four points and four rebounds.

The Coyotes knocked down 11 3-pointers in the win.

Jaden Bennett led Edison with 20 points, including four 3-pointers.

Candor, now 9-5, hosts Newfield Friday.
