IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: NEWARK VALLEY CAN'T OVERCOME EARLY DEFICIT IN 52-40 LOSS TO TIOGA (21 PHOTOS) (2025-01-21)

NEWARK VALLEY — Newark Valley fell behind early and could never make up the deficit in a 52-40 loss to Tioga here Tuesday night in IAC South boys basketball action.

Tim Woytsiak knocked down a 3-pointer, and scored five points in the first quarter, but the Tigers jumped out to a 16-8 lead.

Anthony Dougher scored five points in the second quarter, and Ashton Slavik canned a 3-pointer to help Newark Valley claw back within one point early in the stanza, but Tioga outscored NV, 14-12, to stretch its lead to 30-20 at the halftime intermission.

Dougher scored six points in the third quarter, and Woytsiak added four points, but Tioga again used a 14-12 advantage to take a 44-32 lead into the final eight minutes.

The game was halted for about five minutes midway through the third quarter after a brief scuffle resulted in the ejection of two players — one from each team.

Woytsiak and Austin Green each connected from behind the arc in the fourth quarter, but Tioga junior Dominic Palmers drained a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points to help the Tigers seal the win.

Woytsiak led Newark Valley with 14 points, while Dougher scored 11 points, Green added five points, and Slavik and Alex Purdy chipped in with four points apiece.

Palmer led Tioga with 18 points and Gavin Kithcart added 14 points.

Newark Valley hosts Marathon Wednesday.
