HS GIRLS WRESTLING: SVEC’S BEACH CLAIMS WINDSOR TITLE, BOHLING SECOND (2025-01-20)

WINDSOR — Tayah Beach claimed her second consecutive tournament title to highlight the Spencer-Van Etten/Candor girls wrestling team’s effort at the inaugural Windsor Lady Knights Invitational here Monday.
Teammate Dallas Bohling also reached the podium, placing second.
Beach, coming off an impressive showing at the Southern Tier Memorial on Jan. 12, would avenge her first loss of the season in the 120-pound championship bout, pinning Waverly’s Emma Vanderhoof in 55 seconds. Vanderhoof won their first meeting this season by fall at the Larry Goodrich Girls Invitational.
It was the eighth straight win for Beach (19-8), who also scored a 10-0 major decision over the Wolverines’ Onnah Thompson in her first match of the day. Beach and Vanderhoof both pinned their semifinal opponents in 12 seconds with Beach decking Marlee Sherman of West Genesee.
Bohling (21-6) went 3-1 on the day at 114, falling to Bainbridge-Guilford/Harpursville/Sidney/Unatego standout Isabella Phelps by a 10-0 tech fall in the finals. Phelps is a two-time NYSPHSAA Girls Invitational bronze medalist.
Bohling spent less than 1 ½ minutes on the mat in her other bouts, pinning Norwich’s Mallorie Schuster in 27 seconds, West Genesee’s Adaline DeCapio in 37 seconds and Chenango Forks’ Kendra Williams in 24 seconds.
Also competing for the Eagles were Taylor Zufall at 114, Abigail Russell at 132 and Katelynn VanEtten at 235. VanEtten was 1-2 with a 51-second fall over Aniye-Jahy Cadeus of Oneonta to her credit. Zufall and Russell both went 0-2.
SVEC was 14th out of 28 teams with 57.5 points. West Genesee took the team title with 124.
