IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: FOSTER POURS IN 43, BUT STATE-RANKED UNION SPRINGS TOPS CANDOR, 75-70, IN OVERTIME (2025-01-17)
Tioga County Sports ReportUNION SPRINGS — Candor junior Jakobe Foster poured in 43 points, but it wasn't quite enough as state-ranked Union Springs prevailed, 75-70, in overtime here Friday night in IAC crossover boys basketball action.
The Wolves, ranked 20th in Class C, led 14-10 after the first quarter, despite seven points from Foster.
Candor knocked down four 3-pointers — two by Foster and one apiece by Donald Makie and Cam Sinn, but Union Springs used a 21-15 scoring advantage in the stanza to take a 35-25 lead into the halftime locker room.
Foster was unstoppable in the third quarter, pumping in 19 points to fuel a 26-15 run that put the Coyotes up 51-50 heading into the final eight minutes.
Foster scored eight more points in the fourth quarter, but the Wolves were able to force an extra session.
In the overtime period, Union Spring's Orion Rusinko scored the only field game. The Wolves made 8 of 10 free throw attempts to seal the victory, while the Coyotes were 6 of 10 from the stripe.
Foster had nine rebounds, four assists, and four steals to go along with his career-high point total, while Makie scored 12 points, and Ryan Huizinga added five points and seven rebounds.
Sinn chipped in with four points for the Coyotes, and Carson Heidl pulled down nine rebounds.
Aaron Johnson led Union Springs with 25 points, and Nevin Brown added 23.
Candor, now 7-5, travels to Vestal Wednesday.
