IAC JV BOYS BASKETBALL: S-VE FOURTH-QUARTER COMBACK BID FALLS SHY IN LOSS TO NEWFIELD (2025-01-17)
Tioga County Sports ReportNEWFIELD — After falling behind by 19 points, Spencer-VanEtten's fourth-quarter comeback attempt came up short in a 49-43 loss here Tuesday in IAC Small School junior varsity boys basketball action.
The Trojans raced out to a 13-2 lead after the first quarter, but S-VE righted the ship in the second quarter with five different players putting their names in the scoring column. Newfield added one point to its lead with a 13-12 advantage, and led 26-14 at the half.
Newfield used a 13-6 run in the third quarter to stretch its advantage to 39-20 heading into the final stanza.
In the fourth quarter, Elliott Johanns knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, and pumped in 10 points, while Camden Losey added five points, including a 3-pointer, and Taryn Rudolph connected from behind the arc to fuel a 23-10 blitz in the final seven minutes.
Johanns led S-VE with 16 points, while Losey scored 10 points, Rudolph added five points, and Gabe McCracken chipped in with four points.
S-VE hosts Tioga Friday.
