H.S. GIRLS BASKETBALL: OWEGO ROLLS PAST S-VE, 52-25; FALLS AT CHENANGO FORKS TUESDAY (24 PHOTOS) (2025-01-16)
Tioga County Sports ReportOWEGO — Owego got out to a lead early, then blew the game open in the third quarter on its way to a 52-25 win over S-VE here Thursday night in non-league girls basketball action.
Lexi Herceg scored six points in the first quarter to spark a 12-4 run in the opening stanza.
Jenna McEvoy knocked down a 3-pointer and scored five points in the second quarter, and Herceg added four points, but Lauren Gillette answered with six points for S-VE, and Lilyanah Doolittle added four points as the two team played even in the stanza, and Owego led 23-15 at the half.
Madison McEvoy, who had just four points in the first half, erupted for 11 points in the third quarter, including a pair of 3-pointers, and Herceg added four points to fuel a 16-9 run that gave the River Hawks a 42-21 lead entering the final eight minutes.
Five different Owego players found the scoring column in the fourth quarter in a 10-4 spurt that nailed down the win.
Madison McEvoy led Owego with 17 points, while Herceg scored 16, and Jenna McEvoy added 11.
Gillette led S-VE with nine points, while Doolittle added six points, and Bri Predmore chipped in with four points.
TUESDAY
Chenango Forks 63, Owego 31At Binghamton, Chenango Forks jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first quarter and cruised to a 63-31 win over Owego Tuesday night in STAC Central Division action.
All-stater Maggie Warpus led Chenango Forks with 23 — all of them coming in the first three quarters.
The Blue Devils led 17-7 after the first quarter, and 30-14 at the halftime intermission.
Lexi Herceg led Owego with 11 points, while Madison McEvoy added nine and Jenna McEvoy chipped in with five.
S-VE, now 5-6, returns to action Jan. 24 at Susquehanna Valley.
