IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: SHORT POWERS NEWARK VALLEY IN 77-30 ROUT OF TRUMANSBURG (2025-01-14)

NEWARK VALLEY — Newark Valley raced out to a big lead early, and cruised to a 77-30 win over Trumansburg here Tuesday night in IAC Large School girls basketball crossover action.

“The team got off to a fast start tonight," said Newark Valley coach Greg Schweiger. "We played pretty good defense, especially in the first half.

"I thought we shot the ball well tonight, too," added Schweiger.

Kam Short was a driving force in the win with a career-high 24 points to go along with eight rebounds, three assists, four steals, and six blocked shots.

"Kam Short had another nice game with a career-high in points," said Schweiger. "It’s nice to see her starting to figure things out.

"We had good balanced scoring from the rest of the team, as well, which is good to see," added Schweiger.

Kam Short pumped in 10 points in the first quarter, while Adriana Finta scored six points, and Adrianna Rich added four points to fuel a 25-2 blitz in the opening eight minutes.

Aubrey Kwiatkowski knocked down a 3-pointer and scored seven points, and Kam Short added six points in an 18-9 run that pushed the lead to 43-11 at the half.

The Cardinals kept scoring in the third period as Kam Short scored eight points and Kwiatkowski added seven points, including her second 3-pointer, in a 21-8 run that extended the NV advantage to 64-19.

Kwiatkowski had 17 points, three assists, and four steals for the Cardinals, while Rich had 12 points, nine rebounds, three steals, and one blocked shot, and Finta had nine points, five boards, eight assist, and four steals.

Livia Short added eight points, five rebounds and one blocked shot in the win, and Anika Smith chipped in with four points.

Newark Valley, now 9-3, return to action Friday at Dryden.
