Tioga County Sports ReportOWEGO — Senior Madison McEvoy scored a game-high 24 points, including the 1,000th of her career, here Monday night to lead Owego to a 66-36 win over Groton in non-league girls basketball action.
Madison McEvoy and Jenna McEvoy each knocked down 3-pointers and scored five points, and Lexi Herceg added four points to help the River Hawks to a 16-12 lead after the opening stanza.
Madison McEvoy canned a pair of 3-pointers and scored seven points in the second quarter to fuel a 13-6 run that made it 29-18 at the halftime intermission.
The River Hawks took total control in the third quarter.
Madison McEvoy and Herceg scored nine points apiece, and Jenna McEvoy added eight points in a 28-11 blitz that gave Owego a 57-29 lead heading into the final eight minutes.
McEvoy's milestone point came late in the third quarter on a 3-pointer — her fourth of the game.
Madison McEvoy led Owego with 24 points, four rebounds, three assists, and four steals, while Herceg had 15 points, six rebounds, and three steals, and Jenna McEvoy had 13 points, four rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
Eva Crawford had four points and eight rebounds in the win, while Katelyn Dodge added four points and four boards, and Kylie Grippen chipped in with four assists, and five rebounds.
Owego, now 4-5, returns to action Wednesday at Chenango Forks.
