IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: SOUTHERN CAYUGA TOPS CANDOR, 66-57 (2025-01-10)
Tioga County Sports ReportAURORA, N.Y. — Southern Cayuga used a big third quarter to build a nine-point lead on its way to a 66-57 win over Candor here Friday night in IAC boys basketball action.
Donald Makie knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points in the first quarter, and Carson Heidl added four points, but Souther Cayuga matched Candor's efforts and the game was tied at 14-14 after the first eight minutes.
Makie, Heidl, and Jakobe Foster scored four points apiece in the second quarter, but Southern Cayuga had a 14-12 advantage in the stanza and led 28-26 at the half.
Foster, who was held without a field goal in the first half, but was 6-for-6 from the line, scored seven points in the third quarter, and Heidl scored four more points, but the Chiefs tossed in 20 points in a 20-13 that extended the lead to 48-39 heading into the final eight minutes.
Foster, who was 12-for-12 from the free-throw line, led Candor with 26 points, seven rebounds and two assists, while Donald Makie had 19 points and three rebounds, and Carson Heidl had 12 points and eight rebounds.
Matt Smith added four rebounds and two steals for the Coyotes, and Teagan Kwiatkowski had three boards, two assists, and one blocked shot.
Isaac Brozon and Kyler Colton scored 23 points apiece for Southern Cayuga.
Candor, now 6-4, hosts O-M Tuesday.
