STAC WRESTLING: OWEGO FALLS AT CHENANGO FORKS, 39-31 (2025-01-09)

BINGHAMTON — Chenango Forks won four of five weight classes midway through the dual to erase a six-point deficit on its way to a 39-31 win over Owego here Thursday night in STAC wrestling action.

Freshman Robert Curley gave the River Hawks the early lead at 108 pounds with a second-period pin of Maddox Hubbard, but the Blue Devils won the next two weight classes by fall to take a 12-6 lead.

Freshman John Cornwell righted the ship at 131 pounds with a second-period fall over Jason O'Connell, and senior Collin Monnell picked up a forfeit at 138 pounds to give the River Hawks an 18-12 lead.

Forks standout Ryan Ferrara, a retuning New York State Division I place-finished evened the match, and started the Blue Devil's mid-dual run with a second-period fall at 145 pounds to tie the match at 18-18.

Jacob Andrews followed with a hard-fought, 5-0, win over Owego's Jonathan Gilliland at 152, and the Blue Devils picked up a forfeit at 160 pounds to take a 27-18 advantage.

Owego standout senior Bobby Struble forged a 10-0 major decision over Tyler Ritter at 170 to stem the tide momentarily, but Forks picked up a fall at 190 to extend its lead to 33-22.

Sophomore Trevor Monnell won a 7-4 battle with Forks' Evan Truesdale at 215 pounds to pull Owego within five points, at 33-28, with two weight classes remaining, but the Blue Devils locked up the win with a fall at 285 pounds.

Freshman Vitaliy Sirotkin proved Owego with its final win of the night, a 90-second pin of Kamdin Henyin at 101 pounds.

Owego will be in action this weekend at the Southern Tier Memorial at Elmira's LeCom Center.
