IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: CANDOR ROLLS TO NON-LEAGUE WIN OVER CAMPBELL-SAVONA (2025-01-08)

Tioga County Sports Report
CANDOR — Candor started fast and built a 31-point halftime lead on its way to a 59-19 win — its seventh straight — over Campbell-Savona here Wednesday night in non-league girls basketball action.

"It was a great game for us offensively after stalling last night at Spencer," said Candor coach Carl Kanoff. "We had a lot of great looks, and created a lot of second chances.

"We had a good mix of fast breaks and outside shots.

"The concern with Nicola (Soper) out has been rebounding, but we've had several girls step up and our work on the boards as a team has been outstanding the last three games," Kanoff added.

The scoreboard was quiet for about two minutes of the game until an Emmi Makie layup gave the Coyotes a 2-0 lead.

After a free throw from Claire Rollins, Makie and Malley Heidl hit 3-pointers to get the Coyote offense rolling on the way to a 15-4 lead after the first eight minutes.

Emmi Makie would hit four of her career-high five 3-pointers in a 24-4 second quarter blitz that also included four points apiece from Megan Williamson and Hazel Ray, and pushed the lead to 39-8 at the break.

Williamson and Ray scored four points apiece in a 12-2 third-quarter run that pushed the lead to 51-10 heading into the final eight minutes.

Makie had 22 points, including five 3-pointers, 10 rebounds, and three steals, while Ray had 10 points, a career-high 17 boards, and four steals, and Rollins had 10 points, six rebounds, and four steals.

Williamson: had eight points, seven rebounds, and three assists in the win, while Malley Heidl had five points, seven rebounds, and three assists, Shawn Conklin hauled down 11 boards, Nicole Poli grabbed nine rebounds, and Ava Fernando pulled down seven rebounds.

The seven-game win streak runs Candor's record to 7-1 entering an IAC North crossover matchup Friday with Southern Cayuga. The Chiefs won last season's game 66-36.
