IAC JV GIRLS BASKETBALL: FAST START PROPELS NEWARK VALLEY TO 55-26 WIN OVER NOTRE DAME (2025-01-08)
Tioga County Sports ReportNEWARK VALLEY — Newark Valley jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first quarter, and cruised to a 55-26 win over Notre Dame here Tuesday night in IAC South Large School Division junior varsity girls basketball action.
Gabby James pumped in 13 points in the first quarter, while Brianna Noble and Peyton Rhodes added four points apiece to fuel a 23-10 blitz in the opening stanza.
Leah Lansing scored six points in the second quarter, and Madeline Noble added five points as the Cardinals used a 13-10 advantage to extend the lead to 36-20 at the half.
James scored four points in the third quarter to spark a 9-4 spurt to push the lead to 45-24 entering the final seven minutes.
Newark Valley sewed up the win with a 10-2 blitz, highlighted by five points from Rhodes.
James led NV with 20 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, nine rebounds, five assists, and three steals, while Rhodes had nine points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots, and Madeline Noble had seven points, four rebounds, and one blocked shot.
Lansing had seven points, eight rebounds, and four assists in the win, while Brianna Noble had six points, nine rebounds, five assists, three steals, and one blocked shot, and Sarah Lamb chipped in with four points, three rebounds, and one blocked shot.
Maci McWheeler led Notre Dame with 10 points.
Newark Valley returns to action Friday when it hosts Whitney Point.
