Tioga County Sports ReportTIOGA COUNTY — Wrestling matches at Tioga and SVEC (S-VE), and a basketball game at Candor headline a light Wednesday night of action.
WRESTLING
Tioga (2-0 overall, 1-0 IAC Large) at Newark Valley (3-0, 1-0), 6 p.m.: The Tigers topped Marathon, 63-6, in its last dual on Dec. 18, while the Cardinals beat Trumansburg, 69-6, the same night.
Senior Trevor Middendorf (124 pounds) has been Newark Valley's top grappler to this point in the season with a 15-0 record. He could match up against two-time state place-finisher junior Logan Bellis, who is 13-7 for the Tigers this season.
Three-time state place-finisher Jayden Duncanson has posted an 18-2 record for the Tigers, and could face Newark Valley junior Logan Rhodes (18-7).
The Cardinals have several other wrestlers with winning records, including junior Logan Woodlin (17-5 at 160 pounds), junior Titus Callahan (16-5 at 190), junior Caden Creeley (13-3 at 160), junior Marcos Escalante (14-5 at 145), senior Gabe Merrill (13-4 at 170), senior Austin DeBolt (8-6 at 285), and freshman Kenny Slater (8-8 at 101).
The Tigers have several other wrestlers with winning records, including returning state place-finishers sophomore Declan McKee (13-3 at 101 pounds) and junior Kadin Cole (11-3 at 116), as well as freshmen Drake Ulrich (11-3 at 101), Mark McCane (13-6 at 285), Tate MaCauley (11-7 at 285), sophomore James Howey (9-7 at 190), and 8th-grader Jackson Parker (5-4 at 108).
Dryden (0-18) at SVEC (7-8), 6 p.m.: The Eagles capped a rough day at the Flynn Propane Duals Saturday with a 39-24 win over Muncy in the seventh-place match, while the Purple Lions went 0-4 at the Dave Darrow Duals in Cortland Saturday, capping the day with a 36-35 loss to Cortland.
Junior Rodney Vaow (12-5 at 131 pounds), sophomore Karen Westbrook (10-6 at 138), sophomore Jak SMith (8-6 at 215), freshman Brennan Zimmer (8-7 at 125), and Cooper Zufall (6-5 at 160) are SVEC's wrestlers with winning records. Junior Kaden Jamison is 7-7 at 152 pounds.
Sophomore Oscar Brotherton (17-1 at 138 pounds), junior Rick Benjamin (7-4 at 152) and sophomore Gaven Valenti (8-7 at 145) are Dryden's only wrestlers with winning records.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Campbell-Savona (2-10) at Candor (6-1), 6 p.m. (Varsity only): The Coyotes are coming off a 35-25 win over S-VE Monday, while the Panthers dropped a 48-38 decision to Bolivar-Richburg Sunday.
BOYS & GIRLS BOWLINGOwego at Chenango Forks, 6:30 p.m.
