IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: FAST START, BALANCED SCORING LEADS CANDOR IN 67-44 WIN OVER S-VE (24 PHOTOS) (2025-01-07)

CANDOR — Candor used a big first half, and balanced scoring to knock off arch-rival Spencer-VanEtten, 67-44, here Tuesday night in IAC South Small School Division boys basketball action.

Carson Heidl scored seven points in the first quarter, and Jakobe Foster and Cam Sinn, who knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, each scored six points to spark a 23-11 game-opening run.

Donald Makie scored seven points in the second quarter, while Taegan Kwiatkowski, who canned two 3-pointers, and Matthew Smith each scored six points to fuel a 24-4 blitz that put the Coyotes up 47-15 at the half.

Claas Huenecke scored six points in the third quarter, and Sinn added another 3-pointers tacked two points on to its lead with a 13-11 advantage in the stanza to take a 60-26 lead into the final eight minutes.

Heidl had 10 points, five rebounds and one blocked shot, and Huenecke had 10 points and six rebounds to lead Candor, while Sinn had nine points on a trio of 3-pointers, four rebounds, and three assists, and Makie scored nine points.

Foster had eight points, six assists, and one blocked shot for the Coyotes, while Kwiatkowski had six points on a pair of 3-pointers and hree boards, Smith scored six points, Jason Jantz added four points, three rebounds, and three steals, and Ryan Huizinga had five rebounds and one blocked shot.

Eleven of the 12 players on Candor's roster scored in the win.

Luukas Carling led S-VE with 12 points, while Chris Merrick scored nine points, Cameron Sundquist had six points on a pair of 3-pointers, Clayton Bower scored six points, and Keith Hills chipped in with four points.

Candor, now 6-3, returns to action Friday at Southern Cayuga, while S-VE, now 0-6, travels to Groton.
