STAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: OWEGO RIDES STRONG DEFENSIVE OUTING TO 51-25 WIN OVER SETON CATHOLIC (2024-12-20)
Tioga County Sports ReportBINGHAMTON — Owego held Seton Catholic without a field goal until the second quarter, and built a 23-point halftime lead on its way to a 51-25 win here Friday night in STAC Central Division girls basketball action.
Ashlyn Dalton knocked down a 3-pointer and scored six points in the first quarter to help the River Hawks to a 12-1 lead after the opening eight minutes.
Jenna McEvoy canned a 3-pointer and scored five points to fuel a 14-2 blitz that gave Owego a 26-3 lead at the intermission.
Madison McEvoy scored five points, including a trey, in the third quarter, and Lexi Herceg and Eva Crawford added four points apiece in a 15-12 advantage for Owego in the stanza. Owego led 41-15 entering the final eight minutes.
Madison McEvoy led Owego with 12 points, three assists, and five steals, while Dalton had seven points, five rebounds, and five steals, Jenna McEvoy had seven points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals, and Crawford had seven points, eight rebounds, and three assists.
Herceg added six points, three rebounds, five steals, and one blocked shot in the win, and Kylie Grippen and Jana Nikulich scored four points apiece.
Olympia Hopf led the Saints with 10 points.
Owego returns to action Friday at Section III Onondaga.
