IAC WRESTLING: NEWARK VALLEY PINS DOWN TRUMANSBURG, 69-6 (2024-12-18)
Tioga County Sports ReportNEWARK VALLEY — Newark Valley rang up seven falls, including six in the first period, and picked up four forfeits in a 69-6 win over Trumansburg here Wednesday night in IAC wrestling action.
Freshman Kenny Slater earned a hard-fought, 12-9, decision over Brody McLennan at 101 pounds to give the Cardinals an early 3-0 lead.
Sophomore Andrew Lelik made it 9-0 with a 71-second fall at 108, and Chance Spoonhower went to overtime with Cashmere Foreman, before catching him for a fall at 6:36 to make it 15-0.
After a Trumansburg forfeit at 124, freshman Leland Houston made it 27-0 with a 92-second pin at 131.
After T-Burg forfeits at 138 and 145, junior Marcos Escalante registered the fastest pin of the night, at 29 seconds, in the 152-pound match to make it 45-0.
Junior Logan Wood scored a fall in 74 second at 160, and Newark Valley picked up another forfeit at 170 pounds to make it 57-0, before the Blue Raiders got on the board with a fall by Dakota Hamilton at 190 pounds.
Sophomore Jack Blomberg, with a fall at 36 seconds, and senior Austin DeBolt, at 1:18, closed out the match with pins at 215 and 285.
Newark Valley returns to action Saturday at the Sgt. Kenneth Haines Memorial Tournament at SUNY Oswego.
