NEWARK VALLEY — Newark Valley used a stingy defense, and a balanced offense in a 46-20 win over Thomas A. Edison here Tuesday night in IAC South junior varsity girls basketball action.

Peyton Rhodes scored six points in the first quarter, and Gabby James added four points to fuel Newark Valley's 16-3 game-opening blitz.

Brianna Noble scored four points, and five other Cardinals added a bucket in a 12-6 spurt that upped the lead to 28-9 at the half.

Noble pumped in 10 points in the third quarter as part of a 12-5 spurt that gave the Cardinals a 40-14 lead entering the final seven minutes.

Brianna Noble led Newark Valley with 18 points, and seven rebounds, while Rhodes had 12 points and seven rebounds, and Madeline Noble had six points, three rebonds, and four steals.

James had four points, four rebounds, nine assists, and three steals in the win, while Ava Fiedler added four points and four boards, and Natalie Wandell hauled down 13 rebounds and recorded three steals.

Newark Valley returns to action Friday at Watkins Glen.
