IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: NEWFIELD HANDS CANDOR FIRST LOSS OF SEASON, 47-34 (18 PHOTOS) (2024-12-17)
Tioga County Sports ReportNEWFIELD — Newfield slowed Candor's offense, and gradually pulled away in a 47-34 win here Tuesday night in IAC South Small School Division boys basketball action.
The Trojans limited the Coyote to just two field goals in the first quarter, and led 8-4 after the first eight minutes.
Candor's offense picked up the pace a bit in the second quarter, but was still outscored 12-9. Newfield led 20-13 at the half.
Newfield kept increasing its lead, outscoring Candor 11-9 in the third quarter, and 16-12 in the fourth quarter.
Jakobe Foster led Candor with seven points and five rebounds, while Teagan Kwiatkowski scored six points and hauled down 13 rebounds, and Matt Smith scored six points on a pair of 3-pointers.
Donald Makie scored five points for the Coyotes, while Carson Heidl had four points and six boards, and Ryan Huizinga had four points, four rebounds, and one block.
Vaughn Zakieus led Newfield with 12 points.
Candor, now 4-1, returns to action Friday at Moravia.
