NEWARK VALLEY — The Newark Valley girls’ basketball team picked up a home win over Edison on Tuesday, 57-14.
“The first half wasn’t pretty, but the girls stuck with it and turned in a much better second-half performance," said Newark Valley coach Greg Schweiger.
"Adriana Rich had a solid all-around game, finishing with a double-double, and Anika Smith had a career-high in points, and really gave us a spark defensively.
"And, Kam Short controlled the paint," added Schweiger.
Anika Smith had a career-high 14 points — 12 in the first half, to go along with five rebounds, and seven steals for Newark Valley, and Adriana Rich had 14 points, with a 3-pointer and six points in the final quarter, to go along with 11 rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Kamryn Short had nine points, including six in the second quarter, 11 rebounds, three steals, and six blocked shots, while Haven Aylesworth had eight points, three rebounds, and four steals, Adrianna Finta had seven points, three assists and six steals, and Liv Short chipped in with four points.
Edison got six points from Charlee Stroman and Mali Huffner finished with four points.
