STAC BOYS BASKETBALL: OWEGO OVERCOMES WINDSOR'S HOT START; PULLS OUT 57-55 WIN (2024-12-14)

Tioga County Sports Report
WINDSOR — Windsor jumped out to an 11-point first-quarter lead, but Owego rallied to lead by half time, and ultimately prevailed, 57-55, after a back-and-forth second half here Saturday afternoon in STAC boys basketball action.

The Black Knights started the game hot, and raced out to a 19-8 lead after the first eight minutes.

The River Hawks answered in the second quarter as Carter Rieg pumped in eight points and Joseph Palladino added seven in a 20-7 blitz that put them ahead 28-26 at the half.

Rieg scored nine more points in the third quarter, but Windsor outscored Owego, 14-13, to close the gap to 41-40 entering the final eight minutes.

Palladino hit a big 3-pointer in the final stanza, Kingston Brainard added his only bucket of the game, and the River Hawks made enough free throws — 9 of 16 from the line — to preserve the win.

Rieg, who was 4-for-4 from the line in the fourth quarter, led Owego with a season-high 21 points, while Palladino scored 15 points, Jack Buchsbaum added eight points, Matt Higgins had six points, and Duke Snyder chipped in with four points.

Ryan Waddell led a balanced Windsor offense with 12 points.

Owego, now 3-1, returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Oneonta.
