IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: S-VE REBUILDING WITH SEVERAL NEW FACES (2024-12-11)

SPENCER — Spencer-Van Etten labored through a difficult campaign last season and now the Panthers’ boys basketball team will start rebuilding with several new faces in the mix.

One void to fill is the head coaching position, where Kyle Pierce has taken the reins from his father, Cliff. The elder Pierce has retired as a coach and educator, and his namesake moves up from his previous position as the JV coach.

Senior guard Christopher Merrick is the lone returning player from a team that went 0-16 last season.

S-VE has a pair of juniors whom Pierce expects to make an impact. They are forward Luukas Carling and guard Clayton Bower.

“We are a very young team this year so our main goal this year is to rebuild the basketball program one step at a time,” Pierce said. “We need to come to get better each day and support each other and the team. We want to learn to play together and work toward a common goal.”

The Panthers open the season at home Thursday against Odessa-Montour.
