STAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: OWEGO FALLS TO CHENANGO FORKS, 54-34 (2024-12-10)
Tioga County Sports ReportOWEGO — Chenango Forks built a 12-point halftime lead, and pulled away in the second half for a 54-34 win over Owego here Tuesday night in STAC girls basketball action.
All-stater Maggie Warpus scored 10 points in the first quarter to help the Blue Devils to a 14-10 lead.
Warpus added five points in the second quarter, including her second 3-pointer of the game, in a 12-4 run to help the Blue Devils to a 26-14 lead at the half.
Ashlyn Dalton knocked down a pair of 3-pointers for the River Hawks in the third quarter, but Warpus scored seven more points and Forks used an 11-10 advantage in the stanza to stretch its lead to 37-24 entering the final eight minutes.
Warpus scored 24 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, to lead all scorers.
Dalton led Owego with 12 points, seven rebounds, and two assists, while Madison McEvoy had 11 points, 10 steals, and two assists, and Lexi Herceg had four points, four boards, two assists, and two steals.
Katelyn Dodge added four points and three rebounds for the River Hawks, while Kylie Grippen grabbed five rebounds, and Jenna McEvoy chipped in with three rebounds and two steals.
Owego, now 1-2, returns to action Friday when it hosts Windsor.
