IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: NEWARK VALLEY RIDES BIG SECOND QUARTER TO 46-33 WIN OVER CORTLAND (2024-12-10)
Tioga County Sports ReportNEWARK VALLEY — Newark Valley used a strong second quarter to build a 13-point halftime lead on its way to a 46-33 win over Cortland here Tuesday night in non-league girls basketball action.
Adrianna Finta scored six points in the first quarter to help the Cardinals to a 9-6 lead after the first eight minutes.
Kam Short scored six points in the second quarter, while Aubrey Kwiatkowski added five points, including a trey, and Adriana Rich knocked down a 3-pointer in a 16-6 run that extended the Newark Valley lead to 25-12 at the half.
Short scored six points in the third quarter as Newark Valley used a 10-8 spurt to push the lead to 35-20 entering the final eight minutes.
Short led Newark Valley with a career-high 16 points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots, while Kwiatkowski had 10 points, four boards, and three assists, and Finta added eight points, three rebounds, four steals, and one blocked shot.
Liv Short chipped in with six points, six rebounds, and two blocked shots, and Rich had four rebounds, four assists, and one blocked shot.
Newark Valley, now 2-1, hosts Dryden Friday.
