OXFORD — Freshman Brennan Zimmer and junior Rodney Vaow both placed second here Saturday at the 61st annual Clyde Cole Wrestling Invitational.

Large School powerhouse Shenendehowa won the team title with 254 points, while Section III Carthage was second with 218.5 points, Walton-Delhi was third with 214 points, Averill-Park was fourth with 172.5 points, and Cobleskille-Richmondville was fifth with 151 points.

SVEC was 11th in the 18-team field with 68 points.

Zimmer, the fifth see at 124 pounds was 2-0 with a pair of pins Friday. On Saturday, he upended top-seeded Peyton Hubbard of Chenango Forks, 6-4, in the semifinals.

In the finals, third-seeded Kohl Muller, who pinned second-seeded Roger Joyce of Carthage in 56 seconds in the semifinals, forged a 10-1 major decision over Zimmer to claim the 124-pound title.

Vaow, the fifth seed who was 2-0 with a pair of pins Friday, decked second-seeded Chase Heidi of Shenendehowa in 4:33 in the semifinals to advance to a finals match-up with reigning state champion Maverick Beckwith of Norwich.

In the finals, Beckwith dominated in a 20-5 technical fall victory.

Junior Kam Westbrook was the only other Eagle to record a win Saturday. He registered a pair of falls in the consolation bracket, but ended one win shy of the medal stand.

Westbrook decked Shen's Emmett Hubbard in 2:38, and Chenango Valley's Jestin Bennett in 35 seconds, but dropped a 13-9 decision to Travis White of Chenango Valley in the blood round.

Sophomore Jak Smith, who was 1-1 Friday, lost his first bout in the wrestlebacks Saturday, falling in 2:46 to Bryden Broe of Queensbury.

Senior Noah Banks (145 pounds) and Patrick Keir (190), juniors Kaden Jamison (152) and Landon Lawrence (152), sophomores Kaden Sims (190) and Cooper Zufall (160), freshmen John-Michael Bohling (101), Bradley Swimlear (160), and Dane Hul (170), and 8th-grader Gabriel Benjamin (145) each lost their first consolation bracket match Saturday and finished the weekend at 0-2.

S-VE, 1-0 in duals, travels to O-M Thursday, then travels to Norwich for the Coach K Duals Saturday.
