HS WRESTLING: BRACE TAKES FIRST TO HIGHLIGHT OWEGO EFFORT AT GOODRICH INVITATIONAL (2024-12-07)

NEWARK VALLEY — Dylan Brace won all three of his bouts to win the 145-pound title and highlight the Owego effort at the Larry Goodrich Memorial Invitational here Saturday.
The River Hawks would finish fourth in the 13-team field with 172.5 points, trailing only Rush Henrietta (242 ½), Unadilla Valley/Unatego/Franklin (191) and Newark Valley (177).
Brace's march to the top included a battle in the championship match with teammate Collin Monell. Brace prevailed, 7-5. He also pinned Luke Lederman of Goshen in 1:23 and recorded a 20-4 technical fall over Gavin Canedo of Deposit/Hancock.
Meanwhile, Monell decked Xavier Lanos of Rush-Henrietta in 4:55 and posted a 21-4 tech fall over Lavonte Gibbons from Elmira.
Joining Monell as runners-up were Vitaly Sirotkin at 101, Robert Curley at 108 and Bobby Struble at 190.
Sirotkin registered a 13-1 major decision over Will Schrader of Central Valley Academy, pinned Triston Allen of Cortland in 2:54 and Elmira’s Dameon Barner in 57 seconds. He lost by fall to Alexander Simons of Rush-Henrietta in 3:55 in the second round and by pin in 3:09 when the two met again in the finals.
Curley dropped a 15-0 tech fall to Luke Koppers of Rush-Henrietta in the first round, then decked Joseph Turco of Goshen in 2:46 and dispatched teammate Landon Boccasini in 2:13. He met Koppers again in the finals and lost by tech fall, 16-0.
Struble scored a 49-second pin against Majaliwa Placido of Binghamton in his first bout, then pinned Gavin Taylor from Rush-Henrietta in 4:15 before decking Nathan Masters of Penfield in 1:37. He met UVUF standout Yanni Drapaniotis in the championship round and lost by fall in 2:25.
Boccasini ended up third. He pinned Andrew Lelik of Newark Valley in :57 seconds and decked Jackson Scott of Central Valley Academy twice, in 3:52, then in 2:40 in the consolation finals.
John Cornwell took fifth at 131 with two falls, a decision and a forfeit.
Jaydin Brained (215) was sixth with a 2-2 record and Brainard Marcus (116) took ninth at 0-4.
Also competing for the River Hawks were Logan Rose (124), Parker Karabon (124), Jonathon Gilliland (152), Cadin Hannum (170), Lucas Boccasini (190), Trevor Monell (215) and Anthony Neumuth (285).
Owego hosts Waverly (5-2) in a STAC Central dual meet Thursday.
