Tioga County Sports Report
NEWARK VALLEY — Trevor Middendorf went 4-0 and gained a measure of revenge against an IAC nemesis to capture the 124-pound championship at the Larry Goodrich Memorial Invitational here Saturday.

The Newark Valley senior defeated Schuyler’s Lucas Hoffman, 7-2, to take the title. Hoffman defeated Middendorf both times the pair met last season, topping him in the IAC and Section IV Division II semifinal rounds.

His effort helped the Cardinals to a third-place finish in the team challenge. NV scored 177 points, trailing only Rush-Henrietta (242.5) and Unadilla Valley/Unatego/Franklin (191) while edging out Tioga County rival Owego (172.5) in the 13-team event.

Claiming third was Logan Woodin at 160 with a 3-1 mark. He decked Goshen’s Ethan Tetzlaff in 52 seconds Elmira’s Scott Fairbanks in 2:54 and teammate Cadin Creeley in 2:30. Woodin fell to Rush’s Jackson Koppers, the eventual champ, by fall in 1:42.

Logan Rhodes (145), Creeley, Titus Callahan (190) and Austin DeBolt (285) placed fourth for Newark Valley.

Rhodes went 4-2 with four pins to his credit. Creeley was 3-2 with a trio of falls. Callahan was also 3-2, pinning two foes and scoring a 19-4 tech fall against another. DeBolt was 2-2 on the day and both of his wins were by fall.

Gabe Merrill was fifth at 170 with a 3-1 record with two tech falls and a major decision.

Andrew Lelik (108), Jacob Sherman (116) and Marcos Escalante (152) finished sixth. Escalante went 3-2, Shipman was 2-3 and Lelik was 0-3.
