HS GIRLS WRESTLING: DEMING, LOVELL WIN 3 BOUTS EACH FOR UPSTART OWEGO AT GOODRICH INVITE (2024-12-06)

NEWARK VALLEY — Callie Deming and Jaelynne Lovell won three matches apiece as Owego made its team debut at the Larry Goodrich Girls Invitational here Friday.
The River Hawks were without three-time Section IV champion RaeAnn Craft, who is temporarily sidelined with an injury, but Deming and Lovell stepped up to combine for five pins and one technical fall.
Lovell (126 pounds) won by fall over Amber Rumsey of Shenendehowa in 46 seconds and followed up with a 25-second decking of Groton’s Brooke Sovocool.
She suffered a 10-0 tech fall setback against Olivia Fox from Shenendehowa, but rebounded by decking Savannah Hartford of Elmira in 21 seconds. In the third-place bout, she fell to Nora Bartholomew of Deposit/Hancock in 59 seconds.
Deming (120) would place sixth. She dispatched Teehgan Tarbox of Deposit/Hancock in 38 seconds, but lost to Jae Rivera of Oneonta by fall in 2:12. She bounced back with a pin of Waverly’s Onnah Thompson in 1:21.
In the consolation bracket, Deming scored a 13-3 tech fall over Alea Morse from Newark Valley, but lost to Emma Vanderhoof of Waverly by tech fall, 20-9, in the fifth-place match.
Ashlee Crawford-Bauer brought home a fourth-place as well. Wrestling at 107, she won her first bout with a 29-second fall over Blake Norton of Waverly.
Her next three matches were losses by fall to Kennadie Cochrane of Waverly in 1:16, Isabella Palleschi from Shenendehowa in 1:23 and Shen’s Elizabeth Bailey in 1:46.
Haditha Hussain Ali (152) was fifth. She lost to Grace Cohn of Oneonta by pin in 55 seconds, then decked Kelsey Loiselle from Oxford/Greene in 14 ticks of the clock. She dropped the next bout to Mackenna Burnette of Elmira by fall in 24, then scored a pin over teammate Tatum Kowalski in 1:06.
Kowalski (152) lost by fall to Lily Karn of Oxford/Greene in 36 seconds, then dispatched Angelena Cole of Oneonta in 1:07. Emily Moldt of Elmira HS posted a 14-3 tech fall against Kowalski, who lost to Ali in her final bout.
Mariana Slocum (145) was ninth. She lost to Maia Woertendyke from Oneonta by fall in 2:59 and came back with a 17-second pin over Elmira’s Atlantis Cherry. She suffered a pin in 3:34 against Abi Reedy of Waverly and lost by pin to Tioga’s Amelia Toomey in 15 seconds.
Michaela Daly (114) took 11th and opened the tourney with a 6-2 victory over Spencer-Van Etten/Candor’s Taylor Zufall. She lost by pins to Bailey Lockskin of Shenendehowa in 40 seconds and Waverly’s Sydney Rosenbloom in 1:07. She fell to Indira Ramos of Deposit/Hancock by a 12-0 tech fall and won by forfeit over Caitlyn Thompson from Oneonta.
Owego was ninth in the 18-team tournament with 82 points. Shen won the team title with 368.5.
The River Hawks host Waverly in a STAC dual meet Thursday.
