H.S. WRESTLING: SVEC'S VAOW, ZIMMER ADVANCE TO SEMIS AT CLYDE COLE INVITATIONAL (2024-12-06)

OXFORD — SVEC junior Rodney Vaow and freshman Brennan Zimmer advanced to the semifinals of the 61st annual Clyde Cole Invitational here Friday night.

Vaow, the third seed at 131 pounds, decked Averill Park's Aiden Meissner in 1:59 in the round-of-16.

In the quarterfinals, Vaow pinned Sidney's Owen Mott in 50 seconds to advance to the semifinals, where he'll face second-seeded Chase Heidi of Shenandehowa.

Zimmer, the fifth seed at 124 pounds, also scored a pair of pins to advance to the semifinals.

Zimmer opened with a pin of Queensbury's Bradley Maranville in 2:40 in the round-of-16.

In the quarterfinals, Zimmer decked Carthage's Brayden Cummings in 3:31 to advance to the semifinals, where he'll face top-seeded Peyton Hubbard of Chenango Forks.

Sophomore Jak Smith (215 pounds), junior Kaden Jamison (152), and 8th-grader Gabriel Benjamin (145) each went 1-1 on the day and are alive in wrestlebacks.

Smith pinned Talian Davis of Oxford-Greene in 35 seconds in the round-of-16, before losing via second-period fall to Averill Park's Alex Salisbury.

Jameson needed just 30 seconds for a pin of Johnson City's Jason Gutierrez Jr. in the opening round, but dropped a 6-5 decision to Alan Soon of Cobleskill-Richmondville in the round-of-16.

Benjamin scored a wild 19-13 decision over BGAH's Glenn Miller III in the opening round, before losing via technical fall to second-seeded Ryan Ferrara of Chenango Forks in the round-of-16.

Freshman John-Michael Bohling (101), junior Kam Westbrook (138), senior Noah Banks (145), junior Landon Lawrence (152), sophomore Cooper Zufall (160), freshmen Bentley Swimelar (160), and Dane Hul (170), sophomore Kaden Sims (190), and senior Patrick Keir (190) each went 0-1 and are still alive in wrestlebacks.

Action begins at 10 a.m. Saturday.
