STAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: OWEGO OPENS SEASON WITH 65-30 ROUT OF TRUMANSBURG IN FIRST ROUND OF SIBLEY TOURNAMENT (24 PHOTOS) (2024-12-06)
Tioga County Sports ReportOWEGO — Owego opened up a 15-point lead in the first quarter, and cruised to a 65-30 season-opening win over Trumansburg here Friday night in the first round of the Charlie Sibley Memorial Tournament.
Jenna McEvoy knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and scored seven points in the opening stanza, while Eva Crawford scored six points, and Madison McEvoy and Kylie Grippen each canned 3-pointers as the River Hawks built a 20-5 lead.
It more of the same for the River Hawks in the second quarter.
Madison McEvoy drilled a trio of 3-pointers and scored 12 points in the second quarter, and Lexi Herceg added four points to fuel an 18-4 blitz that extended the lead to 38-9 at the half.
Madison McEvoy led Owego with 19 points, including five 3-pointers, five assists, and three steals, while Crawford scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds, Jenna McEvoy added nine points, three rebounds, and three steals and Herceg chipped in with six points, four rebounds, four assists, and one blocked shot.
Katelyn Dodge grabbed five boards, and Grippen, Ashlyn Dalton, and Keely Wicklund each hauled down four rebounds.
Libby Foster led Trumansburg with 11 points.
Owego will square off with Elmira Saturday at 3 p.m. in the championship game.
