GLENS FALLS — Candor continued to battle through pool play at the 2024 NYSPHSAA Class D Girls Volleyball Championships here Friday, improving to 2-0 on the day with a 25-22, 25-18 victory over Mekeel Christian Academy.
The Coyotes started the match with a familiar move, a hard Nicola Soper shot to the back row for the initial point of the first set.
Following four straight sideouts, Phoebe Swartz went to the floor to make a save and put the ball back over the net for a 4-2 lead.
Candor, up by two, was unable to shake the Lions, who roared back with a 7-1 burst to go ahead, 16-12.
Another powerful hit by Soper and a pair of nice efforts from Jill Teribury, highlighted a Coyote surge to create a 16-16 deadlock.
The score would be tied at 20, 21 and 22 before the Coyotes scored the final three points, the go-ahead point coming on an Emmi McCracken hit just inside the sideline.
