SECTION IV GIRLS SWIMMING: LEE, MURPHY LEAD OWEGO TO FOURTH-PLACE FINISH AT CLASS B CHAMPIONSHIPS (6 PHOTOS) (2024-11-10)
Tioga County Sports ReportENDWELL — Junior Sophia Lee had four top-four finishes, and sophomore Ava Murphy had the best individual finish to pace Owego's efforts here Saturday at the Section IV, Class B Swimming & Diving Championships.
Owego senior Katelyn Katchuk won her fifth consecutive Class B diving title Friday with a Section IV record of 586.2 points, and is the only River Hawk headed to the State meet.
Maine-Endwell claimed the Class B team title with 388 points, while Waverly was second with 352, Oneonta was third with 335, and Owego was fourth with 252.5 points.
Lee finished third in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 25.48 seconds, while sophomore Riley Masterson was ninth in 29.46 seconds, freshman Xoey Kozakowski was 12th in 30.8 seconds, and sophomore Hailey Stevens was 16th in 32.96 seconds.
Lee also finished third in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:04.02, and freshman Maura Wilburn was 15th in 1:18.37.
Murphy placed second in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:01.97.
Lee and Murphy, teamed with junior Olivia Schrader and sophomore Cecilia Clair to finish fourth in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:58.72.
Lee and Murphy also teamed with Clair and Masterson to finish fourth in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:48.22.
Murphy placed fifth in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:27.71, and Schrader was 10th in 2:33.49.
Schrader finished fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:17.70, and sophomore Natalia Nowetner was 16th in 1:32.8.
Schrader and Masterson teamed with sophomore Liz Williams, freshman Kaiah Malmstrom to finish sixth in the 400-yard freestyle
Williams was 10th in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:19.48, and Clair was 14th in 2:31.51.
Malmstrom finished 12th in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:33.01, while Williams was 1th in 6:34.22,
Masterson finished 13th in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:06.44.
