THE WEEK AHEAD: SECTION IV SET TO CROWN VOLLEYBALL, GIRLS SWIM, CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPS; FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS BEGIN (2024-11-03)
Tioga County Sports ReportTIOGA COUNTY — Postseason is in the home stretch in Section IV, which will crown champs this week in volleyball, girls swimming, and cross country, while it kicks off its football playoffs, and the Owego boys begin play in the state soccer postseason bracket.
There are 11 events on the docket this week — 10 postseason and an add-on football game, including four on Saturday and three on Thursday.
The following are all of the postseason events this week, but the schedule could expand by an event or two should certain teams win.
MONDAY (0)No Games are scheduled.
TUESDAY (1)• S-VE hosts Dryden in the quarterfinals of the Section IV, Class C volleyball playoffs.
WEDNESDAY (1)• Owego will swim in the Section IV, Class B preliminaries at Maine-Endwell High School.
THURSDAY (3)• All four Tioga County teams will be in action at the Section IV Cross Country Championships at Chenango Valley State Park.
• After receiving a bye in Tuesday's quarterfinals, Candor will host the Section IV, Class D pool play semifinals. The top two advance to Sunday's championship match at Tioga.
• Newark Valley added a football game, and will host Harpursville-Afton in a 6 p.m. start.
• Class C volleyball pool play is at the highest remaining seed, Tioga if it wins Tuesday. S-VE will also be there if it wins Tuesday. The top two from pool play advance to Saturday's finals at Tioga.
FRIDAY (2)• Owego will host Norwich in the semifinals of the Section IV, Class B football playoffs.
• Owego divers will compete in the Section IV Diving Championships at Elmira.
SATURDAY (4)• SVEC will square off with Tioga in the semifinals of the Section IV, Class D football playoffs at Susquehanna Valley High School.
• Owego will square off with Maine-Endwell at Tioga Central High School for the Section IV, Class A volleyball title. Match time is 1 p.m.
• Owego will swim at the Class B Championships at Maine-Endwell.
• Owego will face an as yet to be determined opponent in the quarterfinals of the New York State Boys Soccer Championships at Union-Endicott High School at 6 p.m.
