(UPDATED) IAC VOLLEYBALL: CANDOR SWEEPS S-VE TO CLAIM SMALL SCHOOL TITLE (24 PHOTOS) (2024-11-01)
Tioga County Sports ReportDRYDEN — Candor posted a convincing sweep to not only win the "rubber match" with S-VE, but claim the overall IAC Small School championship here Friday evening at Tompkins-Cortland Community College.
The Coyotes swept the Panthers by scores of 25-19, 25-20, and 25-11.
In their first meeting this season, S-VE won a five-set thriller, but Candor answered a few weeks later with a sweep, and both teams finished the regular season at 11-1.
Emmi Makie had 23 service points, including three aces, 12 kills, one block, and six digs, and Phoebe Swartz had nine points (two aces), 34 setter assists, three kills, one block, and three digs to lead Candor in the sweep, while Kate Stouffer had nine points, five kills, and 11 digs, and Hazel Ray added eight points.
Nicola Soper had three points, a team-high 22 kills, and two digs for the Coyotes, while Jill Teribury had six points and 12 digs, Ryleigh Bowman had three points and two digs, Malley Heidl had three assists and two digs, Emmi McCracken chipped in with two kills, and Ava Fernando added one block.
Faith Brenchley led S-VE with 10 points, 11 digs, three kills, and one block, while Kelsea Swayze had six points, seven assists, and seven digs, and Lilyanah Doolittle had four points, three kills, and two blocks.
Lauren Gillette had four points, two kills, and one block for the Panthers, while Amana Diboun recorded eight digs, Makana Diboun added three digs, Trinity Dasher had two kills, and Andy Wallace chipped in with two digs.
Candor returns to action Thursday when its hosts the Section IV, Class D semi-final pool play, while S-VE hosts Dryden in Class C quarter-final action.
