SPENCER — Spencer-Van Etten/Candor closed out the regular season with a 47-21 victory over Schuyler in Section IV football action here Friday night, running its win streak to three games.
The Candor and S-VE players celebrated Senior Night by rolling up 484 yards offense.
Charlie Hilbert rushed for 305 yards and four touchdowns on 29 carries. He also made his presence know on defense with an interception and two tackles for losses.
Logan Aman carried the ball five times for 64 yards and a TD, and Chris Merrick went 2-for-2 through the air for 36 yards and a TD. He hit Rodney Vaow on a post pattern for a score, and Vaow tacked on 24 yards on six runs.
Cooper Zufall toted the rock three times for 29 yards, and Theo Mueller and Landon Lawrence combined for an additional 11 yards.
The Eagles' defense registered a pair of sacks and held the Storm to to 177 total yards. The visitors managed just 18 yards on the ground.
SVEC scored in the game’s first minute after the Storm fumbled away the opening kickoff and the Eagles tallied on a 31-yard run on the first play from scrimmage.
SVEC extended its lead to 14-0 in the first quarter before Schuyler rallied to knot the score at 14 on a pair of short runs.
With 1:48 remaining in the first half, the Eagles took the lead for good on a 17-yard run.
SVEC extended its advantage to 35-14 on third-quarter TD runs of 60 and 30 yards, then the Storm scored their final TD on a 75-yard kickoff return to make it 35-21.
The Eagles responded with a 32-yard TD pass with 1:17 left in the period and added a 6-yard scoring run with 9:51 remaining in the final frame.
SVEC (5-4) will face Tioga (6-3) in the Section IV Class D semifinals next Saturday at Susquehanna Valley.
