STAC BOYS SOCCER: OWEGO BLANKS VESTAL, 2-0, IN TUNE-UP GAME FOR SECTIONAL FINAL (2024-10-28)
Tioga County Sports ReportVESTAL — Unbeaten Owego showed why it's the top-ranked Class A team in the state, pulling out a 2-0 win over Vestal here Monday night in a tune-up game for both teams heading into their respective Section IV title games Saturday.
"It's a great additional game against a strong team with a lot of talented players," said Owego coach Alessio De Michele. "It was perfect preparation for our sectional final to keep the competitiveness in the group up.
"We always want to dominate games, but it is important to learn how to win different types of games, where we have to defend at times, too," he noted.
"I think we were always a threat on the counter-attack tonight and scored two fantastic goals and almost added a few more," added De Michele
Vasil Brich, off an assist from Adam Llewellyn, put Owego on the board initially.
Chris Ward, off a feed from Brich, made it 2-0.
Owego, now 18-0, will face top-seeded Maine-Endwell (10-4) Saturday at 4 p.m. at U-E in the Section IV, Class A championship game.
Vestal falls to 9-6. The top-seeded Golden Bears will face second-seeded Horseheads (7-5-1) Saturday at 3 p.m. at Waverly in the Class AA title game.
