SECTION IV BOYS SOCCER: JANTZ KEYS SVEC'S OVERTIME WIN OVER SUS. VALLEY IN OPENING ROUND OF CLASS B PLAYOFFS (12 PHOTOS) (2024-10-26)
Tioga County Sports ReportCONKLIN — Jason Jantz isn't one of SVEC's top goal-scorers, but he came through when the fifth-seeded Eagles needed him most, scoring in overtime to lift them to a 2-1 win over fourth-seeded Susquehanna Valley here Saturday evening in the quarterfinals of the Section IV, Class B boys soccer playoffs.
The overtime goal was Jason Jantz's second of the game. His first — early in the second half — tied the game at 1-1.
"Coach Lanning and I are very proud of the boys bouncing back after giving up an early goal," said SVEC coach Jason Banks.
"Susquehanna Valley was a tough team and was well prepared for the game," noted Banks. "They did a good job locking in on our typical goal scorers.
"Toward the end of the game, we adjusted and moved Jason (Jantz) up to forward and he came through for the team," added Banks. "The whole team put everything on the line and left it out on the field."
Jack Desimone scored with 3 minutes remaining in the first half to give the Sabers a 1-0 lead at the half.
Jason Jantz, off a feed from Noah Banks, tied the game with 31 minutes remaining in regulation.
Four minutes into overtime, Jason Jantz, off a feed from Kyle Jantz, netted the game-winner to send the Eagles into the semifinals against top-seeded Chenango Forks (12-2-1) Wednesday at Forks.
SVEC had an 8-6 edge in shots-on-goal.
Sirron Irvin recorded five saves in net for the Eagles.
