SECTION IV FIELD HOCKEY: SVEC EDGES WALTON, 1-0, IN CLASS C QUARTERFINALS (24 PHOTOS) (2024-10-25)
Tioga County Sports ReportSPENCER — Fourth-seeded SVEC was only able to get one shot off on-goal, but Megan Williamson made the most of it, lifting the Eagles to a 1-0 win over fifth-seeded Walton here Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Section IV, Class C Championships.
"Most of tonight’s game was played between the 25s," said SVEC coach Abby Gentile. "We weren’t able to get too many offensive opportunities, but similar to the last time we played Walton, one nice passing sequence was capped off with a Megan Williamson goal.
"Our defensive corner unit was tested many times tonight, including one at the end of the game," she noted. "The players worked hard to disrupt their plays and Walton was often held without a shot.
"I am proud of these girls," added Gentile. "They have worked very hard this season."
Williamson's goal, off an assist from Kendall Gentile, came with 8:01 remaining in the first quarter.
Walton had a 4-1 edge in shots-on-goal, and a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners.
Katelyn Klym had four saves in the cage for the Eagles.
SVEC (8-9) now travels to face top-seeded Whitney Point (14-2) Tuesday at 5 p.m.
