Tioga County Sports ReportTIOGA COUNTY — It will be a historic night of football at Newark Valley as the program plays its first-ever home night game, hosting divisional rival Bainbridge-Guilford.
Also on Friday's docket, SVEC hosts a sectional field hockey game, and Owego hosts a STAC semi-final volleyball match.
FOOTBALL
Bainbridge-Guilford (5-2 overall, 0-1 Div. VII) at Newark Valley (1-6, 0-1), 7 p.m.: The Cardinals are coming off an 18-16 loss at Ithaca, while the Bears dropped a 49-12 decision to divisional rival Deposit-Hancock.
Johnson City (1-5, 0-3 Div. III) at Owego (6-0, 1-0), 7 p.m.: Johnson City has forfeited this game, and the remainder of the season due to a lack of players.
FIELD HOCKEY
Section IV, Class C
Quarterfinals
5-Walton (6-10) at 4-SVEC (7-9), 3:30 p.m.: The Eagles are coming off a 5-0 loss to powerhouse Whitney Point eight days ago, while the Warriors ended the regular season with a 3-0 loss to Greene.
Walton topped SVEC 4-2 during a four-game losing streak to start the season. The Eagles won the rematch, 1-0, during a six-game win streak late in the season.
The winner travels to top-seeded Whitney Point (14-2) Tuesday for a semi-final match-up.
VOLLEYBALL
STAC Semifinals
Vestal (10-2) at Owego (15-0), 5 p.m.: The Central Division champion River Hawks are coming off a sweep of Waverly Tuesday, while the Metro Division Golden Bears swept Binghamton in its regular-season finale.
The winner will face the winner of the match between West Division Champion Corning (11-1) and East Division winner Windsor (12-3).
