IAC BOYS' SOCCER: SVEC BOYS PICK UP VICTORY OVER NEWARK VALLEY (18 PHOTOS) (2024-10-17)

NEWARK VALLEY — The SVEC boys’ soccer team prepared for the postseason on Thursday with a 6-4 win over Newark Valley, scoring twice in the final two minutes to seal the victory.

SVEC led 3-1 at the half on their way to the win.

Newark Valley’s Vince Finta scored first in the game in the 11th minute, but SVEC got a goal from Xavier Beach, off an assist from Claas Huenecke, in the 28th minute, and then Noah Banks scored in the 32nd minute and Jason Jantz scored off a Gage Spencer assist in the 35th minute.

Huenecke made it 4-1 off a Javier Loriga Bailly assist in the 10th minute of the second half, before Newark Valley’s Bela Krenner scored three goals in nine minutes, with goals in the 61st minute, 65th minute and 70th minutes.

Baillo scored off Jantz assists in the 78th and 79th minutes to cap the win.

Brennan Zimmer had six saves for SVEC and two goalies combined for 11 saves for Newark Valley.

“This was a great game for our whole team to get involved on the field,” SVEC coach Jason Banks said. “In addition, both teams were able to try some tactical changes as we prepare for the IAC Championship and sectionals.”
