STAC BOYS SOCCER: OWEGO BLANKS SETON CATHOLIC, 4-0, IN FINAL TUNE-UP BEFORE LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHPS (2024-10-15)

Tioga County Sports Report
OWEGO — Owego blanked Seton Catholic, 4-0, here Tuesday on Senior Night in its final regular-season tune-up prior to the STAC Boys Soccer Championships.

The River Hawks, now 14-0, host Maine-Endwell (10-3) Wednesday at 7 p.m in one semi-final game, while Ithaca (9-1-2) hosts Oneonta (9-5) in the other semifinal.

“This was an absolutely brilliant night to celebrate our Senior Night,” said Owego coach Alessio De Michele. “It could not have gone better.

“There were great goals, and great energy from the first minute to the last,” he noted. “Thanks to the O-Zone crowd for making it super fun for the players.

“It was tricky to prepare for this match with our STAC semifinal tomorrow,” said De Michele. “We wanted to manage minutes, which we were able to do, and every single player including a few of our JV call-ups played their part.

“We’re so proud of the boys for their performances this season, but now the real fun starts,” added De Michele.

Vasil Brich scored two goals, including one on a penalty kick, and dished out one assist for the River Hawks, while Ryan Barnes scored one goal and doled out two assists, and Matt Higgins had one goal and one assist.

The STAC championship game will be played Friday night at the smaller enrollment school.
